Trieste - The Società Velica Barcola & Grignano presented on July 15th the 46th edition of “Barcolana”, the big Regatta which is held in Trieste (Friuli Venezia Giulia, Italy) every second Sunday in October. The Barcolana 2014 will be held on 12th october.
On this occasion, the organisers have also presented the poster for the 46th edition of the race. The design is by Luca Missoni, son of the famous stylist Ottavio Missoni.
Usually the Regatta starts and ends in the little harbour of Barcola, at the doors of the city: right from here the name of “Barcolana”. But in this edition, for the first time, the organisers decided otherwise.
In fact, the race will end in front of the main square of Trieste, piazza Unità d’Italia, which is the largest square in Europe open to the sea.
The goal is to allow general public to get more involved in the Regatta. The “Barcolana” is a great opportunity to visit the city and enjoy in the true spirit of sailing.
For the sailing teams, registrations for the race start at the end of July, with the publication of the "Notice of Race". Teams may register online on the website of the Regatta, or send the registration form by e-mail.
Payment can be made by bank transfer or by going directly to the headquarters of the Sailing Club Barcola Grignano.
There will be many side events in the days of “Barcolana”: FuoriRegata (3 to 12 October) offers a wide range of events in the city center. From 4 to 12 October will be on stage special races for all sailors: children (Barcolana Young, October 4 to 5), windsurfer and kitesurfer (Barcolana Fun, October 4 to 8), vintage boats (Barcolana Classic, October 11). The race at night “Barcolana Notte” takes place on October 11.
The Barcolana Village is located along the waterfront (October 8 to 12). There will be two evening concerts with Barcolana in Music (October 10 to 11).
