Trieste - The “Barcolana” is the most crowded regatta of the world. Every second Sunday in October almost 2000 sailing boats meet in the bay of Trieste (Friuli Venezia Giulia, Italy).
The Barcolana 2014 will be held on 12th october. The enrollments were opened on 31st July.
In this edition, for the first time, the regatta opens its doors to the general public.
In fact, it will be possible for tourists, fans and sportsmen to join the regatta getting on board of a sailing boat, by paying a ticket. The deal can be made online on the website www.barcheyacht.com starting from August 2nd 2014.
“You have never been on board? - says the ad on barcheyacht.com - Don’t worry, buy the ticket “Ticket to sail” and enjoy the most crowded regatta of all Europe in complete safety, thanks to the presence of very experienced skippers, that will deal with all the technical aspects of navigation”.
There are two possibilities: with the ticket “Regatta” it will be possible to participate just on Sunday 12th: the meeting is at 8 a.m. and the start of the regatta is at 9 a.m. The cost is: 250 euro plus FIV card (25 €; it is possible to buy the card in Trieste through the Barcola and Grignano sailing club). A medical certificate is needed.
Buying the ticket “Weekend” it will be possible to take part also to the race course test on Saturday 11st (starting at 11 a.m.). In this case, the cost is of 350 euro plus FIV card.
For groups of sailors there is the possibility to rent an entire boat right in Trieste. The option “Barcolana Charter” is the solution for a group of friends that love sailing and want to take part in the Regatta, with or without a skipper.
The aim of the organizers is to give to the general public the possibility to have fun with sailing and to encourage tourism in the beautiful city of Trieste.
